Driving Information
Motoring
Self-drive hire is not recommended in India. The best way
to travel by road in India is by chauffeur-driven car. Taxi
cabs are cheap and most operators will drive long distances
and wait at no extra cost if required.
Importing a Car
For drivers bringing their own cars to India, it is necessary
to have a carnet de passage and liability insurance cover.
Spare parts and tyres should also be brought with the vehicle
as there may be difficulty obtaining certain manufactured
parts in India.
Licence Requirements
Drivers should possess a full national driving licence.
The International Driving Permit (IDP) is not compulsory,
but can be useful as an additional document.
Which Side of the Road?
Drive on the left.
